Burlesque is all about being adventurous, standing out from the crowd and making bold, unusual choices, and we at Privée of Knightsbridge think this should count for Christmas as well.
Now, we love traditions, but we also love pushing the boundaries, and we think the perfect holiday has a mixture of the two.
If you also like trying new and unusual things, why not try something from our list of ideas for making your holiday period more avant-garde?
Go with a unique tree
Traditional Christmas trees are wonderful, festive sights to behold, but that doesn’t mean they’re for everyone. If you are sick of using the same old tree year after year or if you don’t have room for a traditional tree, then why not try out a unique alternative?
This year, upside down trees have been making a lot of waves, being used in a variety of different hotel and high end shop Christmas displays. Smaller versions can be purchased for your home so you can literally turn the traditional tree on its head. Other unusual Christmas trees include minimalist, stripped down trees, trees made entirely out of lights and even two dimensional trees you can hang from your wall.
Think about unusual gifts
Often, the gifts we remember the most are the unusual ones, the ones that really take us by surprise. So this year, think outside the box when it comes to buying gifts for people. If you know someone who has always wanted to learn to waltz, then get them some lessons, or book that outdoorsy relative of yours a zorbing session. The only limit is your imagination!
You could even make someone’s Christmas dreams come true by taking them for dinner and a show at Privée of Knightsbridge.
Create Christmas clothing
If you are an avant-garde kind of person with a flair for fashion, why not create your own Christmas clothing using decorations? You don’t have to just limit it to your clothes, use decorations, tinsel and green hairspray to turn your hair or beard into a unique, festive talking point!
Even if you think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, if your work or family is hosting an “ugly Christmas jumper” competition, try going the extra yard and make your own instead of buying one? This gives you free reign to be as crazy and out there as you like, without having to worry about the end result looking good.
Switch up your Christmas dinner
Though changing any element of the traditional Christmas dinner will be seen by many as sacrilege, those who are more gastronomically adventurous might want to try this. Enjoy a taste of a different culture by swapping out your Christmas dinner for one traditionally eaten in another country.
For example, in Poland and Lithuania, a twelve dish Christmas supper is enjoyed, usually on Christmas Eve, where each of the twelve vegetarian or fish dishes represents a different month of the year.
